چکیده

This paper proposes groundwater flow simulation models based on explicit finite difference method (FDFLOW) and Galerkin finite element method (FEFLOW) and solute transport simulation models based on Galerkin finite element method (FESOLUTE), random walk method (RWSOLUTE) and modified method of characteristic (MMOCSOLUTE). These coupled flow and transport models are aimed at simulation of solute transport in two-dimensional, transient, unconfined groundwater flow systems. Proposed models are validated for chosen test cases. Sensitivity of model solutions to various flow and transport parameters viz. transmissivity, pumping rate, longitudinal and transverse dispersivity and effective porosity is analyzed. Further best-performing coupled flow and solute transport model amongst the proposed ones using the criteria of numerical oscillations and average global mass balance error is decided. It is found that the best-performing model is FEFLOW-MMOCSOLUTE model whose adequacy is ascertained by applying it to a Mahi Right Bank Canal (MRBC) command area aquifer in Gujarat state of India. Results showed that the computed head and TDS concentration distributions are in close agreement with the available field observations. Investigating future changes in groundwater quantity and quality in the Khash alluvial aquifer through numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling

The Khash alluvial aquifer, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, supplies the water needed for agriculture, drinking, and industry in the Khash area. In order to predict the future status of groundwater level and water quality, and to find aquifer management solutions, groundwater flow and solute transport models were developed using MODFLOW and MT3DMS. GMS 10.3 was used to develop the model. Ca...

برآورد هم‌زمان پارامترهای هیدرولیکی و انتقال املاح در خاک به روش حل معکوس در مقیاس مزرعه

Estimation of unsaturated soil hydraulic and solute transport properties by Inverse modeling has thus far been limited mostly to analyses of one-dimensional experiments in the laboratory, often assuming steady-state conditions. This is partly because of the high cost and difficulties in accurately measuring and collecting adequate field-scale data sets, and partly because of difficulties in des...

Numerical Simulation and Estimation of the Transvers Macrodispersivity Coefficient of Aqueous Phase (Miscible) Contaminants of Salt Water in a Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Porous Media

Deterioration of groundwater resources in coastal regions due to the progression of saline water in aquifers in these regions is currently one of the important issues in providing water needs in these areas. In coastal regions, saline water enters the aquifer from below in shape of wedge. Due to the difference in the density between fresh and salty water, an interface zone forms between two flu...

Two-Dimensional Solute Transport with Exponential Initial Concentration Distribution and Varying Flow Velocity

The transport mechanism of contaminated groundwater has been a problematic issue for many decades, mainly due to the bad impact of the contaminants on the quality of the groundwater system. In this paper, the exact solution of two-dimensional advection-dispersion equation (ADE) is derived for a semi-infinite porous media with spatially dependent initial and uniform/flux boundary conditions. The...
